SMU promises continued anti-drug vigilance after student’s off-campus death

“After a federal jury convicted a self-proclaimed professional poker player of causing the overdose death of an SMU student, university officials said they will “remain vigilant” in combating drug use on campus.
SMU, which last fall responded to criticism over student drug use with new programs, had representatives attend the trial of James McDaniel in part to learn “how best to extend our efforts to educate students and prevent such future tragedies, and to help students who already have substance abuse issues,” according to a statement a university representative issued after last week’s guilty verdict.”
