New Hampshire’s chief medical examiner says more residents died last year from prescription drug overdoses than injuries from car crashes.

Dr. Tom Andrew logged 160 prescription drug deaths during 2009. That compares to 130 car crash deaths in 2009, and 15 homicides. Andrew calls the number of prescription drug deaths “ridiculous.”Andrew tells the Portsmouth Herald that 83 of the drug victims had prescriptions that killed them and many drugs were “illicitly obtained.”
